Smith Showcases Global Initiatives

Everything that is global at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business was on colorful display outside of Van Munching Hall on May 7, 2015, for the first Smith Global Showcase organized by the Office of Global Initiatives (OGI).  Hundreds of students, staff and faculty gathered around the table displays to share stories from their undergraduate study abroad experiences this past year, while dozens more detailed the global learning they enjoyed here in College Park.

Smith sophomores expand their global mindset through first-ever colloquium course

“You don’t need to leave the United States to develop a global mindset,” said sophomore supply chain management and international business major Stefanie Kilyk after attending Smith’s Global Mindset Colloquium Celebration on Dec. 5, 2014. Kilyk, like many other undergraduates who participated in the pilot semester of the global mindset course, found tremendous benefit in the colloquium developed in collaboration between the Smith Undergraduate Program and Ernst and Young.

Smith School Leads Conversation on Global Education with Ivy League Partners

On June 12-13, 2014, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted the first in-person meeting of the Executive Roundtable on business school global initiatives, a by-invitation-only group of heads of international education offices at top-tiered business schools. The group shared best practices in global business education, examined assessment tools typically used to measure global competencies, and envisioned the “next generation” of global programs. 

100+ Smith Students Study Abroad During Spring Break

For spring break (March 2014), 156 MBA and undergraduate students traveled to Brazil, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, and the United Arab Emirates for a variety of study abroad experiences offered by the Office of Global Initiatives at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Nearly 70 MBA students studied abroad in Europe and Latin America while nearly 90 undergraduates participated in courses in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. More than 100 Smith Students Study Abroad over Summer 2013

This summer 105 students traveled to Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, and Spain for short-term abroad courses offered by the Smith School’s Office of Global Initiatives. More than 80 graduate students participated in three courses while 19 undergraduates traveled to Germany and Italy for a course on entrepreneurship.

Smith MBAs Travel to Europe and South America to Study Global Economy

Each year, more than a hundred Smith MBA and Executive MBA students travel around the world on short-term study abroad courses. Courses are typically offered between semesters and are comprised of 20-35 students led by a faculty guide. Students meet in College Park prior to departure and the trips typically consist of 10 days abroad. After the spring semester ended this past May, two groups of students departed to study the global economy in different parts of the world. One group was off to Europe and the other to South America.

College Park, Md., Beijing, China & New Delhi, India March 14, 2007 - The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with the Management Development Institute (MDI) in India and the University of International Business and Economics in China to jointly deliver a Global Consortium MBA program that will simultaneously draw students from the United States, China and India.
