Economist Ranks Smith EMBA Program Among the World’s Best

The executive MBA program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is ranked 24th in the world by the Economist in its 2015 executive MBA ranking report, released May 14. Among U.S.-only schools, the Smith School is No. 15, and No. 17 among U.S. schools with joint programs or international campuses.

Further broken down, the Smith School’s EMBA program was globally ranked No. 4 for quality of faculty, No. 10 for quality of students, No. 16 for program quality, and No. 17 for personal development and educational experience.

Smith’s research faculty continued to be recognized as among the world’s best –ranked No. 1 in the world for student-rated teaching quality, and No. 1 for the percentage of full-time faculty with a PhD.

The high ranking for the quality of the program points to the student-rated relevance of the program (ranked No. 6 in the world), and the ease to which students keep in contact with classmates and faculty when off campus (No. 4 in the world). Smith EMBA graduates also pointed to an average more than 62 percent salary increase a year after graduating, ranking Smith No. 9 in the world.

“We are proud to be recognized for the strength of our EMBA program,” said Gary Cohen, assistant dean of executive programs at the Smith School. “These rankings reinforce the quality of our program -- which focuses on real-world leadership development -- the caliber of our faculty and their research, and the excellence delivered by our staff to equal an exceptional return for our students.”

The Economist based its second bi-annual rankings on personal development (e.g., student diversity and faculty and program quality) and career development (e.g., post-graduation salary expectations and networking opportunities). The results are drawn from student-reported figures, student ratings and school-provided data.

Smith’s Economist ranking builds on other recent top rankings of the EMBA program. Smith’s program was recognized as No. 11 in the U.S. by the Financial Times and No. 17 by Bloomberg Businessweek in the most recent ranking of each.
