In addition to his role as a Professor of Finance at the Smith School, Gordon Phillips is also a faculty research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). His recent research is on private and public equity offerings (PIPEs and SEOs), mergers and acquisitions, and how a firm's organizational structure affects the flow of resources across its divisions. His research areas include security offerings, Chapter 11 bankruptcy, mergers and acquisitions, the impact of a firm's financial decisions on its strategic decisions, and how leverage buyouts and other forms of high debt influence a firm's and its rivals' investment decisions. His research papers have been published in the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, American Economic Review, and The Economic Journal. He has served as an associate editor for the Review of Financial Studies (RFS) and is currently an associate editor at the Annals of Finance and the Journal of Corporate Finance. He has taught MBA, Ph.D., and also executive MBA finance courses and has received the Krowe Award for Teaching Excellence.
