The Blackboard Course
Management System, located at
http://bb.rhsmith.umd.edu,
is designed to help faculty integrate Web resources into their traditional
classroom courses. It has being used by Smith faculty
since Fall 2002. The entire University of Maryland campus now uses
the same tool. We're currently running on Blackboard
Academic Suite Release 7.3 and has been upgraded to
Version 8.0 during the Memorial Holiday weekend on May 26, 2008. Blackboard is
not only an Online Course Materials Development Tool now, it also allow students
submit assignments online, gives students access to online discussion board,
live chat, virtual classroom, etc., all through an easy-to-use Web interface.
Blackboard version 8.0 is here!
The
Blackboard system has been
upgraded to Version 8.0 during the
Memorial Holiday weekend.
Version 8
replaces the ELMS “Gradebook”
with an improved “Grade Center”,
giving faculty some greatly
requested additional
functionality. The grade center
tool is designed to be more
dynamic, allowing easier access
for adding grades manually. Both
Office of Smith IT and campus OIT
will be offering training
throughout the summer and
additional online support
materials to help faculty learn
about the new functions of
Blackboard. Check back
here and watch your email for
links to information and a
training schedule.

staff can request Non-Term-Based Courses and Organization Spaces in Blackboard as well. Visit our
Request BB Spaces web page for details.
In this Blackboard

we provide links to some of the many ways to gather information
about using this tool. The campus OIT also provide many manuals and
training materials that you can reach from the "Training" tab when login to
Blackboard system. Please let us know if there is some other information we
might provide here to make using the course tool easier. Contact us at bbhelp@rhsmith.umd.edu.
